Partnership with Focus On Northern Uganda (FONU)
FONU is inviting anyone willing to be in partnership for well being of the people of northern Uganda that have been traumatized by the longest civil war in Africa and due to the insurgency that was in the region, it made the region to be the leading population of people affected with HIV/AIDS. As a result, this organization was formed. FONU is a non-profitable organization that was opened in Uganda. It was formed in 2004 by Richard and Catherine Kikonde. The activities that FONU is performing are to support orphans. In kindergarten we have 100 orphans, 400 in elementary, 400 high school, and 300 in vocational school. In total, we are supporting 1,207 orphans and 85 elderly. Out of the orphans we are supporting, 175 are HIV positive.
We are performing:
~ Voluntary testing and counseling sessions to support the people of northern Uganda infected with HIV/AIDS.
~ Preventive mesures on parental transmission to reduce the risk of HIV transmission to the infants.
~ School based HIV preventive methods.
~ Relate the fight against HIV/AIDS to the development goals.
~ Bring to the communite coordinated involvement of all at stake holders in the planning, managements, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of HIV/AIDS interventions.
~ Serve as a resource mobilization tool that provides a basis for costing and seeking support for HIV/AIDS interventions in Northern Uganda.
~ Encourage the use of condoms especially in urban areas and to youth.
~ Patients adherence consuling guidance.
`Free health fair to people and affordable medical assistant
`Supporting Orphans,Elderly,Womwn affected with HIV/AIDS ,Childern affected with HIV/AIDS
.
The challenges we are facing are:
~ Lack of access to laboratory procedures and the associates costs.
~ There is always shortage of drugs centers.
~ There are few research centers that are specialized in management of HIV/AIDS victims and few medical team too.
~ Palliative care is not at a wider range that all patients can benefit from them.
~ Care support and treatment is very poor (there is always shortage of human resource to support the access to treatment and intensive care.
~ Uganda recievs USA dollars under the presidential emergency plan for AIDS and only 15% is used to cater for HIV/AIDS equipments.
~ Patients cannot afford to meet the bills for the cost of testing and medication if referred to go and do the testing in private clinics.
~ Patients do not have access to seeing the physicians so that their health can be monitored to see if they are doing well on the medication or not, that makes them discouraged and most of them do not turn up now to collect their medication if the medication is available
~ Sometimes the Lira Regional Referral Hospital runs short of drugs which makes all of the health centers to be without drugs.
~ Also, we still do not have our own school so we are sending them to various schools.
Way to move forward:
~ A durance counseling and guidance.
~ Palliative care providers number be increased.
~ Hospice member team number to increased.
~ Improve on the testing methods and making them available
~ Taking service to people but not people coming to look for service.
~ Construction of one laboratory (research center) that can serve more than all the districts in northern Uganda.
~ Improve on the standard of services to patients.
~ To people who have stertd getin medications from hospitals do not stop getting drugs.
~ Orphanage to be constructed.
~ School to also be constructed, (infantry, primary, secondary, vocational) so that the orphans can come out of school to lead a sustainable life.
~ Other countries to come up in partnership with the FONU NGO and volonters to come to Uganda to see that the venerable group benefits from the donetion and the fund is diverting .
~ We still do not have our orphanage to bring those children to be together.
Conclusion:
Your donetion to FONU will change the lives of very many people in Northern Uganda
